Parents should not expect anything. full stop.
It is very to expect some thanks in kind, from children. Absolutely not. One should expect them to give this directly to the grand children.
So you, the grand parents already received your reward from your parents beforehand.
Tough luck if you did not. But it is bad practice to demand from your grown up children.
This requires a serious imagination of what the time dimension really is.
