why do dementia patients sleep so much?
Not sure if this is true, but I have an example in front of me asleep.
I think some of the dementia states must use up a lot of energy in the brain, hence a need to regularly recover.
I think that before I had the three stages way of exploring, I would rush around and exhaust myself. The beautiful thing now is that I know the first stage is full of interesting things, that I should not get hung up with, as they are probably not genuine. So am perfectly happy revisiting it and recovering.
Maybe the dementia person gets stuck into it, and keeps getting exhausted, has to sleep, and then starts all over again. He would keep panicking as he is worried he will never manage to get beyond the first stage.
Now this is rather spoilt by the fact that my model such case, has woken up and calmly walked along the corridor. But I bet he is now asleep in the dining room.
However I want to explore the idea that people need to be able to absorb themselves at will in trivia to stop themselves getting into a vicious circle. Be it doing a blog, a crossword, a game of patience etc. (a pack of cards has just been delivered to my table in my bedroom!). It is particularly important not to continue what they were doing.
Now this model begs all sorts of questions about reversibility. I think I would say simply it will more reversible than you currently think, but not easy.
