the explanation is always dementia
I am obviously sensitive to this, after family histories, but it seems rather too much an explanation that leads nowhere.
I guess my reasoning is that I am not always convinced that the individuals could not snap out of their confusions. Dementia implies to me that the patient has no road to recovery. The risk is that people then don't bother to look for the facts of a case.
Dementia implies irreversible, and that there is no need to try and solve the disfunctions.
Now maybe this is wrong, and that they can scan for physical evidence.
One of the 'recruits' by my strange pair was dismissed a dementia case in a discussion. Now this might be correct, but that is not a reason to throw him to those scavengers.
I think there should be a games room, where could get exercise and stimulation. Surely they could be encouraged to bring the odd game or sport with them when moving in. Even tasks looking after potted plants in the place, or playing games of patience could provide a little pride and stimulation.
This would be better than the odd musical entertainment.
I guess I would list things like birdwatching, bird feeder, games, computer, books, model building, discussion.
I think I might ask for a deck of cards, and play a few games. The Internet should have some instructions.
