Is space rational?
The title is sort of poking fun at a completely mad idea of mine.
The mathematical concepts of continuity and types of numbers are rather theoretical. But if one were to imagine asking what types of measurements one could have in space you are getting close to what I am considering. So questions like, is distance quantized? Can it be irrational? If you count things, are they aleph 0,1, 2? I suspect we normally assume a smooth space, with full continuity.
I have never heard anyone on this sort of topic. I am sure people are perfectly happy with differentiating functions, so probably go for the fullest set of numbers. But what if space was more granular, even if very small? Would there be a maximum frequency?
Anyway I am not going to get far in solving it, bar sending a question to prolific physicist and broadcaster, whose name I have temporarily forgotten.
