Guided the lady through the meal.
I thought I would try a different tack, and tried to guide her through eating her main course, explaining what the server would think on seeing the state of her plate. And amazingly she let me do it.
At various stages she made outrageous claims, such as saying the broccholi was more than a day old. I squashed those claims with zero comeback.
She stopped eating a couple of times, but then resumed.
Eventually we had a completely clean plate. And we let the server take it away.
I congratulated her. She did not complain. She seemed to accept that times that I called her bluff. And the server handled everything very well.
I did explain how the server would previously think she had finished and would then start clearing. Nothing was challenged.
